Now the bobbins are finished they need some hair fine enameled copper wire wound around them
I got this fantastic retro looking winder with counter off eBay.
I was hoping and aiming for 6000 turns however after 5000 the bobbin is completely full.
Ready to have the pickup wire soldered on...
...and here's what 5000 turns of wire look like if you snap the start of the wind and have to cut it all off and start again!!!
So after another hour of winding I managed to successfully solder on wire and test the coil meaning I could get on and make the pickup base out of brass sheet.
With poles and magnets fitted...
and the mounting screws...
and sat in the mounting ring. I also tested the pickup by wrapping the wires around a guitar lead, plugging it in to an amp and gently tapping the poles with a screw driver to get a reassuring popping sound.
Second pickup wound with no problems...
Second base plate...
...and finally two complete and working pickups!
